Rene Sta. Maria Jr. is the founder of AppwardTech, a purpose-driven technology company based in the Philippines. With over 25 years of experience in the IT and energy sectors, Rene brings deep expertise in IT architecture, software engineering, and digital transformation.
Before launching AppwardTech in 2024, Rene held senior leadership positions at AboitizPower, where he served as Assistant Vice President for IT Architecture and Business Solutions, leading enterprise-wide initiatives in system integration, application modernization, and Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) implementation. His strategic approach enabled digital innovations across multiple business units within AboitizPower’s distribution group.
Rene’s career began in the early 2000s as a developer and evolved through increasingly complex roles—culminating in leadership posts at Visayan Electric Company and Davao Light, where he managed engineering information systems and spearheaded large-scale IT projects.
At AppwardTech, Rene leverages this wealth of experience to help businesses accelerate their digital transformation journey. The company focuses on building intelligent software solutions, integrating legacy and modern systems, and applying emerging technologies like Generative AI and IoT to solve real-world problems with speed and precision.
